the bows

Standard model

My standard model is the result of my many experiments to create a nyckelharpa bow that caters to the demands of a contemporary nyckelharpa player, while being still connected with the Swedish bow making tradition.

What’s special about this bow is its convex stick that, different from tradiional bows, has its highest point in the middle of the bow and therefore is able to support the bow hand ergonomically. Each bow is unique, therefore there’s some variation in its convexity.

If you like to order a bow, I will be happy to discuss possibilities and give advice what bow should suit you, otherwise I recommend you to try out different bows, either in my workshop in Vienna or at one of these events.

This bow is very well suited for all different playing styles and genres. It comes with a screw tightened frog as its standard. On request I can also deliver it with a detachable frog.

Model Swedish tradition

My model Swedish tradition is the essence my exploration of the very many different traditional bows I was able to have a look at and try out and my vision of developing a synthesis from these.

This bow is always built with a screw tightened frog, and also here there’s some variation regarding the design and height of its curvature.

Early baroque model Novelli

This model is inspired by the violin bow depicted in the painting Musical Duel between Apollo and Marsyas by Pietro Antonio Novelli (1568-1625).

Of all my bows, this one has the most straight stick. It’s particularly well suited for baroque and early music. It comes with either a screwed or a detachable frog.
